Surveillance image released for I-69 hit-and-run involving Jeep Compass

Michigan State Police released a surveillance image on Wednesday of a dark gray 2018 Jeep Compass involved in a fatal hit‑and‑run on I‑69 near M‑100 on September 25. The crash occurred around 9 a.m. and left a 52‑year‑old DeWitt man dead. The victim was taken to University of Michigan Health‑Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and died Saturday.

The image shows the vehicle with right front‑end damage, including hanging trim, a missing headlight, and a missing passenger‑side mirror. The suspect, a 39‑year‑old man from Charlotte, was located and arrested Saturday on unrelated charges, but the vehicle has not yet been located.

Police are asking the public to contact MSP Lansing Post at 517‑322‑1907 if they see a vehicle matching this description or if auto repair facilities bring the vehicle in for repair. The suspect driver has not disclosed the vehicle’s location.
