Michigan nurse faces charge in detainee’s escape from hospital

Federal prosecutors charged Chloe Renee Freeman, a 33-year-old nurse from Whitmore Lake, with helping a Mexican citizen escape custody at Trinity Health Ann Arbor hospital. The charges were filed in late August, and court documents were unsealed Tuesday.

According to the criminal complaint, the man was taken to the hospital after being injured while trying to flee immigration agents on May 28. After a CT scan, Freeman led him out of the room; surveillance footage showed him leaving through ambulance bay doors less than three minutes later. He has not been found.

The complaint says Freeman told investigators she allowed the man to leave, knowing he was an immigration detainee. Trinity Health said she no longer works at the hospital. Her lawyer told the Detroit News that she plans to plead not guilty.
