35-year-old arrested in fatal Jackson County hit-and-run

A 35-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in the Lansing area for a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on September 15 near Rosehill Road and Videto Lane in Jackson County. Jordan Morey of Charlotte was taken into custody without incident and arraigned Wednesday, with a bond set at $100,000, according to court records.

The crash happened around 10:40 p.m. on September 15, when police responded to a 911 call reporting a man lying motionless in the roadway and a scooter nearby. Investigators determined that 58-year-old Eric Estey of Jackson was riding an electric scooter westbound on Rosehill Road when he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. Surveillance footage, Flock Safety cameras, and witness statements helped identify a suspect and locate the vehicle involved. An arrest warrant was issued September 29 on a charge of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death. Morey was lodged in the Jackson County Jail until his arraignment.
