Crowd gathers during ICE arrest in Ypsilanti Township

An ICE arrest drew a crowd Wednesday morning in Ypsilanti Township, prompting Washtenaw County deputies to respond to the 2100 block of West Michigan Avenue.

Officials said community members showed agents a green card for one person arrested, who was released at the scene. An ICE agent later called 911, saying the crowd was preventing agents from leaving and the situation felt unsafe. Deputies said the situation calmed when they arrived, and ICE left.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies took no part in immigration enforcement and responded to de-escalate the situation and keep people safe.
