Arson suspect charged after Lyons House fire
Ethan James Shattuck, 29, of Lyons, was arrested and charged with second‑degree arson and lying to a police officer after a September 24 fire destroyed an unoccupied House on the 100 block of Jon Street. The Lyons‑Muir Fire Department responded at 5:35 a.m. And received mutual aid from Pewamo, Ronald Township, and Ionia Public Safety.
The fire was extinguished and the house was destroyed, but investigators determined the blaze was intentional. Sheriff’s deputies opened an investigation, questioned Shattuck, and received evidence that he had provided a false name and false statements to deputies.
Shattuck is being held at the Ionia County Jail on a $30,000 cash surety bond and is scheduled for a probable‑cause conference on Oct. 21 in Ionia County District Court. Anyone with information on the fire may contact the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office at (616) 527‑5737 or Silent Observer at (616) 774‑2345.
