Illinois woman received probation for Lansing transit bomb hoax
An Illinois woman was sentenced to three years of probation for making a false bomb threat against Lansing’s public transit system. Nefateria Denise Ferguson, 33, of Peoria, also received four months of home confinement and a $350 fine.
Federal prosecutors said Ferguson anonymously called the Capital Area Transportation Authority on April 22, 2025, and reported a bomb at the bus station. Officials rerouted buses, closed nearby streets and evacuated more than 200 people while police searched the area for about an hour. Ferguson later admitted to FBI agents that she made the call as a prank, prosecutors said.
