Ann Arbor council opposes proposal for municipal utility board
The Ann Arbor City Council voted Monday night to oppose a citizen-initiated proposal that would establish a municipal utility board. Supporters say Proposal E would begin a process that could eventually transfer DTE’s electric grid and assets to the city.
Opponents say the proposal’s wording could expose the city to a costly legal fight. Mayor Christopher Taylor said voters should not decide until the costs are known, while initiative supporters said voters can make their own choice. The council removed language urging voters to oppose the measure on the November ballot before its final vote.
