Woman dies after train strike in Livingston County
A woman died after being struck by a train in Livingston County on Wednesday morning, Oct. 7, at about 10:30 a.m. The train was traveling along the railroad tracks near Chilson and Brighton roads when the crew saw a person lying on the tracks.
Michigan State Police reported that the conductor tried to stop the train, but it struck the woman. Troopers investigated and learned that the missing person was a 79‑year‑old woman from Genoa Township. She was walking from her home to a nearby party store when she may have fallen and couldn’t get back up before the train approached.
The intersection was closed for several hours to investigate the scene and was reopened around 7 p.m. The incident is being investigated by Michigan State Police and local authorities.
