Saxena postpones preliminary exam to Oct. 29 amid sexual assault case

Arpit Saxena, a former Michigan State University physician, agreed Friday to postpone his preliminary examination to Oct. 29. The preliminary exam, originally scheduled for Oct. 15, will now take place at the Ingham County Jail with a $2 million bond. Prosecutor Steve Kwasnik said that a couple of discovery issues warranted the delay, and defense attorney Michael Carter expects to resolve them before the rescheduled exam.

Saxena is charged with three counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct. He treated patients at MSU between July 2024 and April 2025, and is accused of assaulting two patients during appointments in April 2025. A third woman has also filed a notice of intent this week for an appointment in January, and MSU has confirmed that law enforcement officers are investigating three additional cases related to Saxena.
