MSU climbs to No. 93 in Times Higher Education world ranking
Times Higher Education released its 2027 World University rankings, placing Michigan State University at No. 93, an improvement of 12 spots over last year and the university’s highest place in the ranking since 2022.
The rank of 93 out of 2,297 institutions places MSU in the top 5% worldwide. Among the 168 colleges and universities ranked in the United States, MSU’s standing improved by three places to No. 35.
The jump in rankings this year is attributed primarily to higher scores in the ranking’s research environment category, which includes the faculty reputation survey, publications-per-faculty and research income per faculty. MSU’s worldwide rank of No. 93 places the university at No. 10 among the 18 Big Ten institutions, the largest improvement among Big Ten universities. President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D., said the recognition belongs to faculty, staff and researchers.
