Vehicle found in fatal I-69 hit-and-run crash in Eaton County

On Oct. 8, police located the 2018 Jeep Compass involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Sept. 25 on I-69 near M-100 in Benton Township, Eaton County. The vehicle was found at a property in Mason.

The crash killed a 52-year-old DeWitt resident who had stepped out of his vehicle to check a mechanical issue with his trailer. The suspect, a 39-year-old man from Charlotte, was arrested on Sept. 26 on unrelated charges.

Police said detectives are still gathering evidence before presenting the case to the prosecutor’s office. They thanked the public for tips and information and asked anyone with information to call the Lansing Post at (517) 927-7902.
