EGLE volunteers clean up Lansing’s Cherry Hill Park, restoring River sightlines

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, seven volunteers from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) joined 19 other state employees in a clean‑up project at Lansing’s Cherry Hill Park, clearing invasive species, trash, illegally dumped tires, and abandoned homeless encampments.

The fourth annual cleanup, organized by EGLE’s Alyssa Seaton, set a record for the amount of litter and trash collected, with thousands of pounds of litter and truckloads of invasive flora cleared, the parking lot swept, and sightlines of the Grand River restored. Cleanup activities extended onto the Grand River itself, spanning nearly half a mile from south of I‑496 to the Kalamazoo Street Bridge.
