Driver seriously injured in I-96 crash near Lansing Road
A DeWitt man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries after his car collided with an unoccupied Michigan State Police patrol car and a semitruck on westbound I-96 near Lansing Road in Eaton County’s Windsor Township on Wednesday evening.
Police said the crash occurred when the driver moved into the right lane to pass a semitruck and struck the patrol car from behind. The patrol car was parked in the closed right lane with emergency lights on while a tow truck removed another semitruck from a ditch. The driver’s car then continued into the left lane and collided with the truck he had been attempting to pass.
Westbound I-96 was closed for several hours and reopened shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday. The driver was transported to a Lansing hospital, and no troopers or the semitruck driver were injured. The crash remains under investigation.
