Katie Zacharia exits White House press secretary role after five days

Katie Zacharia is transitioning out of her role as White House press secretary just five days after accepting the position, according to a White House official. President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that he asked Zacharia to reconsider the job, stating, 'Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,' after she was treated 'very badly' by the media.

The abrupt departure follows a rocky first week during which Zacharia defended her legal background after acknowledging she had failed the California bar exam. She told Fox News host Sean Hannity that she 'probably should have stepped aside' during her first press briefing, which she said was shortened due to limited preparation time.

Zacharia, who previously served as a communications adviser for the company that runs Truth Social, accepted the role on October 7 after a call from Trump. If she formally leaves the position, she will hold the record for the shortest-tenured press secretary in the administration's history.
