Iraqi forces absorb PKK-linked Units in Sinjar

Iraqi federal forces began integrating the PKK-linked Sinjar Resistance Units into state security institutions on October 26, marking the end of the group's independent military structure. A handover ceremony on Mount Sinjar, supervised by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, initiated the transfer of control over the mountain's highest point.

The agreement covers 4,165 members of the Sinjar Resistance Units and the all-female Sinjar Women's Units. Lt. Gen. Saad Maan, head of Iraq's Security Media Cell, stated that members would join the Interior Ministry and the Popular Mobilization Forces, describing the process as a stage of actual implementation rather than negotiation.

The move follows a September agreement between Türkiye and Iraq to establish full federal control over Sinjar and prevent foreign armed groups from operating in the region. Iraqi officials cited constitutional provisions prohibiting military groups outside the official armed forces as the basis for bringing weapons under state control.
