Lawrence targets Eaton County in final push for 7th District
Democratic nominee William Lawrence announced a final campaign strategy to visit 24 towns across Michigan's 7th Congressional District, including Eaton County, as Election Day approaches. Speaking outside the former office of incumbent Rep. Tom Barrett in Charlotte, Lawrence framed the race as a choice between local community support and national party directives.
Lawrence highlighted recent community efforts, such as a food drive and a sit-in outside Barrett's office, while citing state-level challenges like Medicaid work requirements and rising costs for fuel and rent. He argued that his campaign has focused on helping residents navigate these economic pressures over the past two years.
Supporters joined Lawrence to voice concerns about proposed hyperscale data centers and healthcare funding cuts. Kelly Kussmaul, a resident near a proposed data center in Mason, emphasized the need for representatives who prioritize small towns over corporate interests, while Jeff Breslin of the Sparrow Hospital nurses union warned that Medicaid reductions could force local hospitals to close units and cut staff.
