Eaton Rapids scarecrows line Main Street for annual fall display

Eaton Rapids residents and local businesses have lined Main Street with handcrafted scarecrows for the annual contest hosted by the Arts Council. The event, which has run for many years, serves as a creative way for the community to celebrate the fall season and attract visitors to the downtown area.

This year’s display features a variety of designs, including figures resembling Rosie the Riveter and Australian environmentalist Steve Irwin. Corey Cagle, director of parks, recreation and events, noted that the contest allows residents to showcase their artistic abilities while supporting local commerce.

The scarecrows are currently on display in downtown Eaton Rapids but will be removed as October ends. The Arts Council established the tradition to encourage community involvement and draw traffic to the area for those traveling between Lansing and Jackson.
