Michigan State and Michigan set to meet in 119th rivalry game

Michigan State and Michigan will face off on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. At Michigan Stadium for the 119th meeting in their 128-year rivalry. The game, which will air on Peacock, marks another chapter in a competition that has defined College football in the state since the teams first met in 1898.

The upcoming contest pits the 2-6 Spartans, who are 0-5 in the Big Ten, against the 5-3 Wolverines, who are 2-3 in conference play. While Michigan dominated the early history of the series, winning 33 of the first 42 meetings, Michigan State has emerged as a consistent competitor since joining the Big Ten in 1953.

The rivalry has been marked by both historic dominance and recent controversy, including the 2015 game where Michigan State stole a victory with a fumble return in the final seconds. The teams have traded the Paul Bunyan Trophy, a four-foot wooden statue presented by Governor Mennen Williams in 1953, with Michigan State winning the most recent matchups under head coach Mark Dantonio.
