Ingham County minister hands out Hand-Painted seashells to locals
An 83-year-old ordained minister from rural Ingham County, Michigan, is giving away hand-painted seashells to community members. Gil Ames, who has painted various objects including wooden eggs and his vehicle, began adding tiny shells to his collection about six months ago. He carries dozens in his shirt pocket and distributes them freely, often visiting diners and waitresses at the Big Boy in Mason.
Ames has handed out more than a thousand shells, with each piece featuring a small angel tucked into the painted scene. Regulars look for this detail as he shares the gifts, which he offers alongside laughs and hugs. The minister, a former long-haul truck driver who volunteered with the Red Cross at 52 national disasters, continues to engage with neighbors through this simple gesture.
