Truck driver enters no contest pleas in fatal Ionia County work-zone crash
A semi-truck driver charged in a 2025 crash west of Portland that killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child pleaded no contest Monday in Ionia County court records.
Mohamed Kamara, 23, entered pleas to a moving violation causing death in a work zone, a 15-year felony, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle causing miscarriage or stillbirth, a two-year misdemeanor.
The Aug. 26, 2025 crash happened in Orange Township as vehicles merged into one lane for a construction zone. Kamara’s semi hit an SUV driven by Shelby Redding of Muskegon County, who was pregnant; both Redding and the unborn child died.
Investigators said downloads from Kamara’s tractor-trailer showed it was traveling 60 to 66 mph at impact in a 45 mph work zone where workers were present.
