Newsom visits Michigan to back Democrats in House and Senate races

California Gov. Gavin Newsom visited Oakland County to support Democratic state House candidates Sarah Pounds and Alex Hawkins, who are running in swing districts that Democrats hope to flip.

Newsom also said he planned to meet Monday with Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, saying national support would be important in Michigan’s Senate race.

Republican gubernatorial nominee John James criticized the visit and tied Newsom to Michigan Democrats Jocelyn Benson and El-Sayed. Newsom said his Michigan trip focused on supporting Democrats up and down the ballot.
