Ingham County had 20 drug-related deaths in first quarter report

Forty-eight people died from drug-related causes across Mid-Michigan in the first three months of 2026, according to a first-quarter report from University of Michigan Health Sparrow’s medical examiner’s office.

Ingham County recorded 20 deaths, the highest number among Mid-Michigan counties listed in the report. Victims ranged in age from 10 to 75.

Chief Investigator Michelle Fox said overall drug-related deaths have declined, but stimulant use has increased, including amphetamines and cocaine. Fox said opioids such as fentanyl are being mixed with stimulants, creating combinations that Narcan alone cannot always reverse.
