Schumer demands Senate briefing on reported Trump evacuation from Turkey

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called for an immediate Senate briefing after reports that President Donald Trump was secretly evacuated from Turkey amid security concerns linked to Iran. Schumer said the Senate should be briefed on the Iranian threats against the president, the measures taken to get him out of Turkey, and any risks to U.S. personnel or the homeland.

Schumer said it was "unacceptable" that Congress learned of the threat through press reports rather than being informed directly, and accused Trump of putting Americans "in harm's way" by entering what he called an "unnecessary and reckless war" with Iran.

Trump reportedly switched from Air Force One to a smaller Air Force C-32A while leaving Ankara during the NATO summit amid a threat, with journalists and some staff remaining aboard Air Force One as decoys. Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, both Democrats, criticized Trump over the switch, with Pritzker saying on CNN that Trump "put people in harm's way to save himself." Trump later said the flight was "dangerous" and that he was under threat "all the time."
