Stocks slip as oil and long-term Treasury yields climb
U.S. stocks fell Monday as oil prices and Treasury yields rose amid renewed concerns that the U.S.-Iran war could reignite. The Dow and S&P 500 each declined 0.5%, while the Nasdaq dropped 0.3%.
Brent crude futures reached $90 per barrel after a memorandum of understanding between the two nations expired. The 30-year Treasury yield rose 5 basis points to 5.31%, its highest level since June 2007, amid concerns about growing national debt.
Investors are awaiting the Federal Reserve’s meeting minutes on Wednesday and quarterly results from major retailers including Walmart, Target, Lowe’s and Home Depot, which could provide clues about consumer spending during back-to-school season.
