Hospitality food prices barely rose in July as supply concerns grew

Food and drink prices in the hospitality sector increased 0.2% in July, slowing from a 1.8% rise in June, according to the Foodservice Price Index. Fruit prices fell as British supplies improved, while wheat and vegetable oil became more expensive and meat prices generally weakened.

Hot, dry weather has put pressure on crops including broccoli, potatoes, onions, carrots and parsnips, raising concerns about availability later in the year. Hospitality businesses also face weaker consumer spending and continued pressure on costs and margins.
