Lansing-area candidate’s longshot Senate campaign gains momentum
Rashida Harrison, a Michigan State University professor and Lansing resident, entered the race for an open state Senate seat after paying a $100 filing fee March 31. She campaigned at political events, met voters across the region and raised about $16,000.
Harrison, who moved to Lansing from New York in 2003, ran as a progressive candidate in the four-person field for the 28th Senate District. Her MSU professorship ends this year, and she had been considering advocacy and consulting work in 2027.
