Michigan governor, Senate races show narrow Democratic leads in poll

Democratic candidates Jocelyn Benson and Abdul El-Sayed held narrow leads over Republicans John James and Mike Rogers, respectively, in a new poll of likely Michigan voters. Benson led James 45% to 41% in the governor’s race, while El-Sayed led Rogers 47% to 43% in the U.S. Senate contest after leaners were included.

The EPIC-MRA poll surveyed 600 likely voters from Aug. 22 through Aug. 28. Both four-point advantages fell within the poll’s plus-or-minus 4 percentage-point margin of error.

The survey found 63% of respondents believed the national economy had worsened, while 67% rated President Donald Trump’s job performance negatively. The results also showed substantial undecided or uncommitted shares in both statewide races.
