El-Sayed defends Michigan focus amid questions over Israel and Hasan Piker

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed faced repeated questions Saturday at the state party’s nominating convention in Lansing about his relationship with streamer Hasan Piker and his views on Israel and Gaza.

El-Sayed said the race should focus on affordability, health care and President Donald Trump’s policies in Michigan. He also apologized for comments about a past attack on a Michigan synagogue, saying they were not intended to justify the attack. He met with the Democratic Jewish Caucus, while some Jewish leaders urged voters to support Republican nominee Mike Rogers.
