Capitol commission drops plans for license plate cameras

The Michigan State Capitol Commission has ended plans to install Flock cameras or other automatic license plate readers around the Capitol in Lansing. The commission’s executive director said there are no plans to pursue other license plate reader systems.

Commissioners are examining emerging security technologies, including possible drone-related systems, but officials said attending a technology summit does not mean drones will be added. Community advocates urged transparency and public discussion over any future surveillance proposals.
