O’Donnell touts prosecutor record in WA Supreme Court race
King County Superior Court Judge Sean O’Donnell is campaigning for Position 4 on the Washington Supreme Court, a seat that will be decided on November 3. He faces former Court of Appeals Judge Ian Birk in the most expensive contest of the ballot, with Birk raising roughly $395,000 to O’Donnell’s $334,000, according to KIRO Newsradio.
O’Donnell highlights his public‑safety background, citing 12 years as a senior deputy prosecutor and nearly 14 years on the bench. He notes his role in the Green River Killer case, the first human‑trafficking case in Washington, and his tenure as chief criminal judge, where he oversaw hundreds of release decisions and worked with stakeholders to improve pre‑trial practices.
He says the support of more than 15 elected prosecutors and 62 judges backing him will give him an edge in Olympia. Birk, meanwhile, has embraced far‑left, partisan voices, but O’Donnell argues that his public‑safety perspective is uniquely represented on the court.
