Michigan Democrats rally union support ahead of Nov. 3 election
Michigan Democratic nominees rallied with union workers in Detroit on Sunday to energize supporters for the November 3 general election. The event, hosted by the Michigan Democratic Party and the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, featured gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson and U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
Benson pledged to fight for workers' rights and lower prices, citing the impact of tariffs and the war in Iran on the state economy. El-Sayed emphasized his pro-union stance, stating he would support union organizing in every sector and contrasting his platform with that of his opponent, former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers.
Other speakers included Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, state Rep. Donavan McKinney, and Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield. Sheffield urged Detroiters to turn out in high numbers, noting that Rogers has opened a local field office to target voters in the city.
