Bloomberg funds Texas races against Paxton and Herrera
Gun-control billionaire Michael Bloomberg has directed millions of dollars into Texas midterm races, allocating $2.5 million to a super PAC supporting Democrat James Talarico’s U.S. Senate campaign against Attorney General Ken Paxton. Additionally, Bloomberg-funded organizations are launching nearly $1 million in attack ads against Republican congressional candidate Brandon Herrera in the 23rd Congressional District.
The spending is part of an approximately $80 million political operation Bloomberg has financed ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. According to October 20 reporting, Bloomberg contributed $16 million to House Majority PAC, the Democratic-aligned organization financing the advertisements against Herrera, and $24 million to Everytown for Gun Safety.
The financial support enters contests involving candidates with distinct positions on the Second Amendment. Talarico has previously supported banning assault weapons and standard-capacity magazines, while Herrera has defended Second Amendment rights. House Majority PAC’s ads against Herrera, titled “Laughing Matter” and “Sin Respeto,” target his participation in a video referencing school shootings following the 2022 Uvalde massacre.
