Residents describe gunfire near homes after East Lansing Halloween shootings
Two people were injured in a shooting at the intersection of Stoddard and Frye streets in East Lansing early Sunday morning, according to East Lansing police. The incident occurred during a night marked by multiple shootings in the city, leaving residents and students in the immediate vicinity processing the events.
Neighbors described hearing what initially sounded like fireworks before gunshots erupted outside their homes. Tyler Weber, a resident on the street, said he heard approximately 30 to 40 shots before seeing people sprinting down the street and entering nearby houses. Adam Shubel, another resident, noted that a friend’s car was struck by a bullet near his front lawn.
Police reported that the night began with a drunken driving arrest on Abbot Road near the library, followed by a shooting at M.A.C. and Linden that injured three people. A car also struck a person at Grand River Avenue and Gunson before the Stoddard and Frye incident. Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz sent a message on Sunday expressing concern and stating that the university is working with city officials to ensure student safety downtown.
