Greenville man dies in I-96 crash in Boston Township

A 77-year-old Greenville man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on eastbound I-96 in Boston Township on Saturday afternoon. Michigan State Police reported the collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. When a semi-truck failed to stop for traffic and rear-ended a Chrysler Pacifica, pushing it into a Dodge Ram pickup.

The driver of the Pacifica was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 63-year-old front-seat passenger sustained critical but non-life-threatening injuries. Two other occupants of the Pacifica and a 33-year-old Zeeland woman in the Dodge Ram also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The semi-truck driver and the Dodge Ram driver were uninjured.

All injured individuals were transported to Butterworth and DeVos Children’s hospitals. Preliminary findings indicate that speed was a factor in the crash, while alcohol and drugs were not. Eastbound I-96 was closed for several hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
