Indiana voters weigh school board races and funding referendums
Midterm elections are underway across Indiana, with voters in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties selecting school board members and deciding on operating referendums. In South Bend, three candidates are competing for a District 1 seat, while incumbents in Districts 2 and 5 run unopposed. The incoming board will face decisions regarding the former Clay High School building, the search for a new superintendent to replace Mansour Eid, and whether to seek an operating referendum in 2028.
In Goshen, all four board seats are contested, with candidates running for District 1, District 3, and two at-large positions. The district, which serves approximately 6,000 students, will see significant turnover as current members decide whether to seek re-election. School board members in these districts are tasked with managing budgets and staffing levels that directly impact students and teachers.
