Justice Department deploys record number of election monitors nationwide

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday that it is deploying approximately 1,000 election monitors and observers across all 50 states in what the agency described as its largest-ever election monitoring effort. The monitors are tasked with ensuring compliance with federal voting rights statutes, including the Voting Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act, and the Help America Vote Act.

The department stated that the initiative is part of broader election integrity and transparency priorities for the Trump administration. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Civil Rights Division said the agency is pursuing transparency in an assertive and nondiscriminatory manner. Local election officials in St. Louis noted that federal monitors are instructed to remain outside polling places and may speak with voters leaving the polls to discuss their experiences.
