East Lansing police increase staffing ahead of Michigan State rivalry game

East Lansing police are deploying extra officers this weekend as the Michigan State football team travels to Ann Arbor for its rivalry game. The department is taking additional precautions one week after two shootings occurred on Halloween night in the city.

Captain Adrian Ojerio stated that while the campus will not see the usual influx of outside partner agencies, internal staffing levels are elevated. Michigan State Police remain on standby to assist if needed, but will not be stationed on campus.

Ojerio urged residents to dress warmly and look out for one another, particularly regarding drunk drivers and students seeking medical amnesty. The university has reminded students that seeking immediate help for alcohol or drug-related issues will not result in disciplinary punishment.
