Eli Savit wins Michigan attorney general election, defeating Doug Lloyd

Eli Savit has won the race for Michigan Attorney General, defeating Republican nominee Doug Lloyd by a margin of 51.8% to 45.5%. The Associated AP called the race at 2:28 a.m. Wednesday, and Savit declared victory shortly after at the state Democratic Party watch party. He will succeed the term-limited current Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Savit, the Washtenaw County Prosecutor, secured the nomination from the Michigan Democratic Party in April after defeating Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. His victory completes the Democratic sweep of Michigan’s executive offices, following wins by Governor Jocelyn Benson and Secretary of State Garlin Gilchrist.

Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd conceded in a statement on social media around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, noting he would return to his current role. Savit’s win adds to the Democratic trifecta in the state legislature, maintaining the party's hold on executive offices since 2018.
