Eaton County voters approve road and transit funding after years of rejections

Eaton County voters have approved funding for local roads and public transportation, reversing a trend of recent rejections. Both measures passed Tuesday with all 39 precincts reporting. About 66% of voters supported renewing funding for the Eaton County Transportation Authority, while 53% approved a separate millage for local roads and streets.

The five-year measure continues the EATRAN property tax levy at 0.25 mills, providing funding from 2027 through 2031. County officials estimated the tax would generate approximately $1.3 million in its first year. A separate 10-year road millage authorizes up to 1.5 mills through 2035, replacing an existing tax and raising approximately $7.8 million annually.

Voters also approved a $123.5 million bond for Grand Ledge Public Schools, though the districtwide result remains unconfirmed pending verification from Eaton, Clinton, and Ionia counties. The outcome marks a shift from previous years, where residents rejected proposals for public safety services and a larger county operating tax.
