Climate change fades as a top issue in Democratic campaigns

Climate change has become less prominent in Democratic election campaigns as voters focus more on affordability, health care costs and opposition to President Donald Trump. The shift follows years of Democratic emphasis on the issue, including proposals such as the Green New Deal.

Researchers and climate advocates warned that the retreat could carry political costs as global temperatures rise and climate-related impacts affect insurance, property values and household finances. About 6 in 10 Democrats still view climate change as a very big problem for the country, according to an April Pew Research Center poll.
