Democrats lead GOP in Michigan poll as national race heats up

A new poll from Mitchell Research and Communications released on Oct. 1 shows Democrats hold a 7‑point lead over Republicans nationally for control of Congress, while in Michigan the margin is 49% to 44% with a 3.8% margin of error.

Political science professor John Clark of Western Michigan University said the poll will matter if it translates into votes on Election Day, noting that independent voters could be the deciding factor and that turnout will be critical for both parties.

Clark highlighted the economy and foreign policy as key issues, adding that data centers and artificial intelligence could play a major role, and reminded voters that the election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
