Detroit nurse charged in alleged theft of patient medication

A 26-year-old Detroit licensed practical nurse was arraigned Friday on felony charges alleging she stole controlled substances from a nursing home patient and falsified medical records to conceal the theft, the Michigan Attorney General’s office said.

Maniya Miller faces charges of larceny in a building, falsifying medical records and illegal possession of a controlled substance. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison.

The allegations stem from a 2024 incident at a Center Line nursing home. The facility terminated Miller after the allegations surfaced and contacted law enforcement and the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

Miller is scheduled for an Aug. 19 probable cause conference. The case is being handled by the attorney general’s Health Care Fraud Division, with assistance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.
