East Lansing police investigate four overnight incidents near Michigan State
East Lansing police are investigating two shootings and two pedestrian crashes that occurred overnight on Halloween near Michigan State University’s campus, leaving multiple people injured. Chief Jennifer Brown detailed the separate incidents during a press conference on Sunday, noting that officers responded to each event as they unfolded.
In the first pedestrian accident on Abbot Road near Library Lane, a driver arrested for suspected intoxication left the pedestrian in critical condition before surgery stabilized them. A second crash near Grand River Avenue and Gunson Street involved another suspected drunk driver, whose vehicle contained a firearm, leaving the pedestrian in stable condition.
Two shootings occurred after midnight, with three victims near M.A. Avenue and Linden Street and two near Stoddard Street and Frye Avenue. All five gunshot victims were transported to a nearby hospital, with most listed in stable condition, while police recovered multiple firearms and took several individuals into custody.
Chief Brown stated there is no known threat to the community and thanked mutual aid partners from the Michigan State Police, Meridian Township Police Department, Lansing Police Department, Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety for their assistance.
