East Lansing weighs health ballot language as line feedback deadline nears

East Lansing City Council members are set to hold a special meeting Monday to approve ballot language for a proposal that would create a citizens advisory committee on healthcare costs.

The group behind the proposal gathered enough signatures to seek a November ballot spot, but the measure may not appear because its signatures came after an administrative deadline for legal review by the governor and attorney general.

Residents have until Friday to submit feedback on proposed routes for a roughly 50-mile transmission line through mid-Michigan. The Ingham County Board of Commissioners has opposed four of seven proposed routes because they would cut through Burchfield Park in Holt.

Friends of Lansing’s Historic Cemeteries plans to hold a tombstone cleaning lesson Saturday morning at Mt. Hope Cemetery, covering how and when to clean markers and whether doing so is legal.
