Eaton County Court orders resentencing of 1988 home invasion case

The Michigan Supreme Court has ordered the resentencing of a convicted felon in Eaton County, following a violent home invasion that occurred on July 4, 1988, as announced Tuesday by Prosecuting Attorney Doug Lloyd.

David Armstrong Jones was convicted by a jury in 1990 of home invasion, armed robbery, felony firearm, and unlawful driving away of an automobile, and was sentenced to 50 to 75 years in prison.

Jones has repeatedly challenged his conviction and sentence over the past 35 years, with appeals in 1992, 2000, and 2012. The case has been remanded to Eaton County Circuit Court, and a conference is scheduled for Oct. 15, 2026, before Judge Kelly E. Morton.
