Eaton County Sheriff warns of AI-generated deputy scam

Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich warned residents on Saturday that scammers are using artificial intelligence and local phone spoofing to target mid-Michigan households. Fraudsters are calling from numbers that appear local and pairing the calls with AI-generated images of fake sheriff’s deputies standing next to cryptocurrency machines.
