Eaton Rapids man arrested in series of assaults on elderly victims
Eaton Rapids police announced Tuesday that a suspect has been arrested in connection with a series of assaults involving elderly residents earlier this month. The suspect was taken into custody on a probation detainer in Antrim County last Friday and transferred to the Eaton County Jail on Monday.
The Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office issued two counts of assault and battery, one count of reckless driving, and one count of driving on a suspended license. The assault charges stem from two of the three victims, while the third victim declined to prosecute.
The incidents began on October 17, when an 85-year-old man was struck multiple times by a vehicle driver leaving the scene of a hit-and-run on Forrest Street. On the same day, a 79-year-old man was assaulted on South Main Street by a suspect described similarly by other victims. Authorities said Flock cameras helped identify the suspect, whose name has not been released pending arraignment.
