Food costs keep rising even as egg prices ease
Retail egg prices are about 40% lower than in June of last year and have continued to decline monthly, according to the source material.
Other grocery costs have continued to rise. Food prices in the U.S. increased 33% over seven years, while ground beef reached $6.82 a pound in June, up 79% from 2019, citing U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
The source material says shrinking cattle supplies, tied in part to years of drought that reduced grass for feed, have helped push beef prices higher. Overall food prices rose more than 2% in 2024 and nearly 3% in 2025, while restaurant and drive-thru prices rose roughly 4% in both years.
