Free youth aviation event ends season in Mason
The Experimental Aircraft Association held its final Young Eagles Aviation Day of the year Saturday in Mason, giving more than 50 children from across mid-Michigan free flights in small airplanes.
The program aims to encourage young people to pursue aviation careers. EAA members said the industry faces shortages of pilots and airplane mechanics.
Free youth flights are set to resume next year on the second Saturday of each month during the summer. The association also plans to host Mason Aviation Days next week, including a pancake breakfast and opportunities for spectators to watch planes.
