Iraqi militia sets conditions for placing weapons under state control

Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada, an Iran-backed Iraqi armed group, said Saturday it would cooperate with efforts to place weapons under state control only if 10 conditions are met.

The group demanded a complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq and an end to any American presence. It also called for Iraqi control of the country’s airspace, stronger Iraqi air defenses, and the departure of Turkish troops and PKK fighters from northern Iraq.

The statement came as Iraq’s government faces a Sept. 30 deadline to bring all armed factions’ weapons under state control.
